Four films for the armchair traveller
We may have pressed a Pause for Thought on our global journeying during these weeks of lockdown but it’s still possible to fuel our desires for voyages beyond the confines our our homes through carefully chosen ScentScapes, music and the arts.
We’ve carefully chosen four films for you to eScape with. And if you’d like to pair one of our Interior Fragrances to each of them, we’ve made some suggestions based on where the steam-distilled plant based extracts we use to scent our candles, come from.
In the Sanctuary of your own space: indulge and enjoy.

A good yeaR
For 2020 at least, let’s discretely put the title of this Ridley Scott film to one side….but indulge in the romantic notion of spending an extended period in France’s quintessential, southeastern Provence where this film elegantly & lightheartedly dips into childhood memories of long, untroubled summer days and juxtaposes them with the frenetic, high octane lifestyle of that comes with being a workaholic investment broker. The film is dotted with olfactory references that pull on childhood recalls as Max (Russell Crowe) discovers - and chooses - a new laid back life in this evocative region which constantly pulls me to explore broader and deeper each time I return.

A room with a view
Set in England and Italy’s Florence, this utterly charming film is about a young woman named Lucy Honeychurch in the restrictive and stifled culture of Edwardian England, and her emerging love for a free-spirited young man, George Emerson. She has been living a suffocating, upright existence, and he will open the window for her. What's elating about the film for me is that it's not only about mystifying & unconventional characters, it's also about how they can alter their lives.

No. 15 || Fig & grape interior fragrance
Ripe & earthy, the heady scent of fig is evocative of Mediterranean warmth. Complimented by the musky sweetness of grape this fragrance provides the perfect scented back-drop.
out of africa
OK …I agree. This is a little predictable and an oldie ….but a greatie.
In 1985 Sydney Pollack directed his most-acclaimed film, Out of Africa. It is based on the life of Karen Blixen-Finecke. Meryl Streep stars as the Danish writer who, with her husband-of-convenience (Klaus Maria Brandauer), moves to East Africa & founds a coffee plantation. Obstacles occur when she later meets and falls in love with British adventurer Denys Finch Hatton (Redford).

The Piano
This is a visually & acoustically haunting film. Set and exquisitely captured in rugged New Zealand, it is an exceptional film that is not just about a story, or individuals, but about a whole universe of responses - of how people can be isolated, lonely and troubled, about how help can come from unforeseen places, and about how you'll never know if you never ask.
